The Boot Hill Casino & Resort in Dodge City has received its final certification order from the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, clearing the way for the casino to open.
The facility will open at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
It's the first facility to open under the state's 2007 expanded gambling law, which allows casinos in Dodge City and Sumner, Wyandotte and either Crawford or Cherokee counties.
Stephen Martino, executive director of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, signed the final certification order at Boot Hill Casino on Tuesday.

Grand Opening festivities and a Ribbon Cutting ceremony will take place on December 16th, officially opening the first phase of the two phase project. Officials attending the event include Governor Mark Parkinson, Senate President Stephen Morris, Ed Van Petten Executive Director of the Kansas Lottery, Carol Sader, Chairman of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, Clark Stewart, President and CEO of Butler National Corporation, Kim Goodnight, Chairman, 2nd District Commissioner, Rick Sowers, Mayor of Dodge City, KS and Michael Weece, Chairman of the Board, Dodge City Chamber of Commerce.
Upon successful completion of the control play day and the approval to open the casino by the Kansas Lottery and the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, the casino will be open to the public.

The Boot Hill Casino & Resort in Dodge City will open on December 16th.
The casino will have 584 gaming machines and 12 tables games. The facility also has a restaurant, saloon, snack bar and gift shop.
Boot Hill will hold two practice events before opening day to make sure everything goes smoothly.
The casino will employ more than 250. A hotel is under construction and will open later.

Boot Hill Casino and Resort will open as planned in November after Kansas regulators made it easier to buy slot machines and other gambling equipment, its operators said Thursday.
Dodge City is the only one of four locations in which construction on a state-owned casino is moving forward after being authorized by a 2007 law. Its operators were worried about not being able to get machines until the executive director of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission acted a week ago.
"Thanks to the executive director's action, it looks like the vendors are showing up. We're happy we have vendors wanting to sell us equipment," Clark Stewart, president of Butler National Service Corp., of Olathe, told the commission.

The new Boot Hill Casino and Resort is designed to enhance and re-create the world famous 1870-1880's experience at the historic Boot Hill destination in Dodge City, Kansas. Estimates by a State of Kansas research study of casino revenue in the Dodge City destination market, range from $40 million to $60 million per year. Phase I of the development will require an investment of approximately $45 million and is planned to open in early December 2009. Phase II of the development is planned to be complete in 38 months and will cost an expected additional $42.5 million for a total of approximately $87.5 million. The Boot Hill Casino and Resort will be a significant economic stimulus for Dodge City, Southwest Kansas, and the entire State of Kansas.
