Hard Rock Casino opening pushed back

The first phase of the Hard Rock Casino at Kansas Speedway will not open until late next year, track owner International Speedway Corp. told market analysts Thursday.

When state officials selected the $705 million project last month, Speedway officials said an interim casino was expected to open by June 2009 with 2,000 slots and 75 table games. The entire project northwest of Interstates 70 and 435 wouldn't be built and open until 2011.

Thursday ISC chief financial officer Dan Houser said the company's goal is to have the interim casino open by NASCAR cup weekend in September next year, but the company is making no promises.
