Racetrack could win casino license

Suburban Stickney could become home to Illinois' first "racino" if the Hawthorne Race Course horse track and its partners prevail over several other bidders for the state's only available casino license.

Tuesday marked the deadline for the Hawthorne group and others vying for the license to turn in bids. The Illinois Gaming Board today plans to release a list of all bidders, how much they're willing to pay and the locations of their proposed casinos.

The board plans to narrow the list to three finalists, who will then have a chance to increase their offers. A winning bidder should be named before the end of the year.
