Construction crews will start building the state's newest casino in March near O'Hare International Airport, the company that won the gambling license rights last year told gambling regulators today.
Neil Bluhm, chairman of Midwest Gaming and Entertainment LLC, told the Illinois Gaming Board that the company is on track to secure investors and funding to start construction despite the poor economy.
Bluhm and his associates presented board members with building plans for the casino, which will be located in Des Plaines on a 21-acre site at the northwest corner of Devon and River roads, just east of Interstate 294. If all goes as planned, construction will begin in March and be completed within 16 months. The site could be expanded to include hotels, more restaurants and additional parking.
