Traveling museum exhibit coming to Hard Rock CasinoTampa
Press Release, Tuesday, July 08, 2008 at 4:51:29 PM
The Seminole Tribe of Florida Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum is opening one of its traveling exhibits "JACKPOT! Seminole Gaming From Then Until Now" July 25th in the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa South Garage/casino entrance walkway. The exhibit will be on display through September 2008 and features a complete historical perspective on tribal sovereignty and Seminole gaming and also a video with interviews from senior members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Jackpot! exhibition is free and open to the public 24 hours a day. "This exhibit offers an incredible interactive experience for the Tampa Bay community to get up close to Seminole Tribal history," said Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino President John Fontana. Members of the press are invited to attend the VIP unveiling of the exhibit on Friday, July 25th. The VIP unveiling includes food and drinks at Plum Lounge at 6pm and a guided tour of the exhibit at 7pm. Please call Gina Morales to RSVP at 813.627.7771. About Jackpot! The exhibit first debuted at the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum at Okalee in October 2007 and focuses on the concepts of tribal sovereignty and the institution of gaming as an economic force in today's American Indian tribes. Visitors will learn about legislation that has affected tribal sovereignty in the United States, and the landmark Supreme Court decisions that still protect tribal interests today. The exhibit also highlights how gaming revenues are used by the Tribe to fund government operations, healthcare, housing, cultural institutions, education, child and elder care, police and fire departments, infrastructure, and donations to charitable organizations. Michole Eldred, Curator of Collections for Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum commented, "The Tampa Seminole Hard Rock facility has been a strategic partner and proudly welcomes the exhibit as well as other potential engagements with the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum in the future. They are very interested in sharing the culture of the Seminole Tribe of Florida with the vast number of visitors who represent local, national and international communities."
