Billionaire Sheldon Adelson flipped the switch "on" for his newest creation, the $1.9 billion Palazzo hotel-casino, with a modest fireworks display and champagne toast in the brisk January air.
The gigantic hotel-casino Palazzo means "palace" in Italian _ officially debuted Thursday as the biggest resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip in three years. Festivities in a celebrity-studded weekend include a Saturday performance by Diana Ross and the Tony Award-winning musical that will play at the hotel-casino, "The Jersey Boys."
The weekend bash was postponed from the expected opening in late December when it wasn't ready for inspections and permits.

The newest mega-resort casino on the Las Vegas Strip is open. The Palazzo opened its doors on Sunday night to the public.
There were a lot of speculations that the Palazzo and the 40/40 Nightclub inside the hotel would not open in time for the New Years celebrations because of a missing permit. On Friday, Clark County Office of Development Services said that the club would not be able to open because it still had not received a temporary certificate of occupancy.
But Palazzo officials told Eyewitness News on Sunday morning the club now has all its paper work and is ready to host a New Year's Eve celebration.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. in just a few weeks will quietly open the 50-story hotel-casino portion of the Palazzo, the $2.1-billion, 3,066-suite encore to its adjoining Venetian and Sands Expo Center developments. The $580-million, 450,000-sf retail piece of the Palazzo addition will open in mid-January concurrent with a grand opening celebration.
Together, the Palazzo, the 4,027-suite Venetian and the contiguous 1.2 million-sf Sands Expo Center represent the largest hotel and convention complex in the world.
The Shoppes at the Palazzo, which opens on Jan. 18, 2008, is no longer owned by Las Vegas Sands Corp. General Growth Properties, which acquired the Venetian’s 407,000-sf Grand Canal Shoppes from Las Vegas Sands upon its completion in May 2004 for $776 million, also agreed at that time to acquire the Palazzo retail upon its completion.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. announced today that The Palazzo Resort-Hotel-Casino, a mega-resort currently being built adjacent to the company's famed Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino, has begun accepting applications for the resort's 4,000 available jobs. In anticipation of The Palazzo's opening this fall, a new employment center has been established to handle the more than 50,000 expected applications.
"As we look forward to the highly-anticipated opening of The Palazzo, we are delighted to welcome new team members to our organization." stated Rob Goldstein, president of The Palazzo and The Venetian. "The Venetian has become one of the world's most successful and recognizable hotels largely because of the long-standing dedication and commitment of our team members. That same type of professionalism is what will help establish The Palazzo as a must-stay destination for the world's most discriminating travelers."
The Palazzo is accepting applications for positions in hotel operations, housekeeping, gaming, food and beverage, property operations, marketing, telecommunications, wedding services, entertainment and administration.
"Job seekers will find tremendous opportunities at our new property as we are hiring for almost every department. The new employment center will serve the employment needs of the integrated Venetian and Palazzo complex. It is conveniently located at 7180 Pollock Drive, one block west of Warm Springs Road just off Interstate 215. The 12,000 square-feet of office space features 65 computer terminals where applicants can apply for the job of their choice. Additionally, there is ample room to conduct private panel or group interviews and plenty of parking near the office.
The Palazzo will offer competitive wages and provide full-time team members with medical, dental, vision, life insurance, mental health insurance, dependent life insurance, short and long term disability and a competitive 401(k) plan. Additionally, all team members receive complimentary meals in the team member dining room per each eight-hour shift, access to onsite day care, a wellness center and guaranteed covered parking in the team member parking garage.
