Company operating The Meadows files for bankruptcy protection

The company that operates the racetrack at The Meadows Casino & Racetrack in North Strabane Township has filed for bankruptcy protection.

The action will not affect racing at the venue, an official said Wednesday.

MEC Pennsylvania Racing filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection earlier this month in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the District of Delaware.

Meadows Racetrack and Casino to hold grand Opening

It's a big week for the Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Washington, Pennsylvania.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a ribbon cutting will be held for the new $175-million, 350,000 suare-foot casino. This is all pending on a test run and approval by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, a news release stated.

Due to the test, the temporary casino will close at 5:59a.m Monday, April 13. It will remain closed along with the new casino on Tuesday, April 14 while preparations are made for the grand opening.

At 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, there will be a brief ribbon cutting ceremony and at 10a.m. the new casino will be open to the public.

The Meadows to halt racing while finishing casino

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is suspending racing for two weeks while it finishes building its permanent $175 million slots casino.

While racing is stopped from Wednesday though April 14, the track will also suspend onsite simulcast racing.

The permanent casino is set to open April 15 and racing will resume then. The permanent facility will have more than 3,700 machines, more dining and entertainment options and a new area to watch and bet on harness racing.

Meadows casino to open June 11

Operators of the Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Washington County said Wednesday they will open a temporary casino at the standardbred race track on June 11.

The casino will house 1,738 slot machines. A permanent casino with 3,000 slots is scheduled to open at the North Strabane racetrack in the spring of 2009. The Meadows casino was expected to open Tuesday but the opening was delayed by technology issues with the casino's security system.

The Meadows postpones slots casino opening

The opening of the Meadows Racetrack & Casino is being delayed because more time is needed to finalize security arrangements.

The temporary slots casino in North Strabane Township was to open next Tuesday, after two days of testing on Friday and Sunday, during which state Gaming Control Board officials were to make sure the casino is ready for the public.

The test days, which were to benefit the Washington food bank and Washington Hospital, also have been postponed.

“I must say that this pizza was consistently mediocre at one time, but tonight I stopped in while at the casino and the two employees were stonding around the pizza's looked like they nad been there for hours. The cheese pizza had a crust that was the size of a loaf of bread around the outside and no cheese. I asked if this is the cheese pizza because the outside crust could have been used for a hoagie. I was told thats how the pizza is supposed to be. I know its fast food pizza and it can be a good product, but with this type of employee you will have to do something about this soon. Eat before you go to The Meadows.”

“The new and Improved Meadows Racetrack and Casino is very nice. It is spacious and has over 3,700 slot machines. They have a high roller section, and a lot of areas that are non-smoking as well as smoking, and it is well ventilated, there's not an overpowering smell of cigarette smoke, etc. They have a big variety of penny and nickle machines and a nice choice of quarter through $5.00 and up machines. The food court is nice, you get a lot of food for the price. A kielbasa sandwich (or a burger) may run around $5.99, but believe me, two people can eat it. And you can eat over looking the horse racing track, if you want. I haven't gone into the restaurants there, yet. The new (permanent) building is wonderful, I think you will enjoy a trip to The Meadows.”

“The casino itself is large, divided into to rooms front and rear. Games are varied from traditional slots to poker. Payouts, at least when I have been there are many. There is a dinning area with excellent food. There is a small gift shop as well. The only drawback to the establishement is the loacation of the restrooms, which are all the way in the rear of the building so, it is not very convenient but, they are large and clean.”
