Bill would restore tribal gaming in Texas

American Indian tribes in Texas are trying again to reopen their casinos. A bill filed Tuesday would provide a defense to prosecution for tribes that operate limited casino gambling.
In Livingston, the Alabama-Coushatta tribe's old casino is now a virtually empty hall with little evidence of the bustling activity that once took place before then-Attorney General John Cornyn shut down gaming in the 90's.
"We're proud of where we live, but at the same time we want to have people make a living on the reservation. And this was one of the ways they could have done it," said Carlos Bullock, the Alabama-Coushatta's tribal chairman.
