Casino Queen in East St. Louis moves away from river

Out with the boat, in with the moat.
Vying to become a bigger player in an increasingly competitive St. Louis-area gambling market, the Casino Queen ditched its riverboat Thursday along the Mississippi River and moved inland to expanded digs, becoming the first of the state's casinos to move away from a river.
The christening of the new 207,500-square-foot Casino Queen _ with nearly 10,000 more square feet of gambling space than the riverboat _ was trumpeted as a marketing gem for this hardscrabble, 31,000-resident city where killings and corruption have grabbed the headlines in recent years.
