Casino gambling to halt if state government shuts down

The Michigan Gaming Control Board on Thursday issued an order that all gambling at Detroit’s three casinos will halt if the budget impasse in Lansing triggers a shutdown of state government functions next week.
Richard Kalm, executive director of the board, told board members that if the state fails to pass a balanced budget by Oct. 1, his regulators at the casinos might “temporarily cease” their oversight.
Casino lawyers were studying the seven-page order Thursday afternoon and had not yet decided whether to challenge it in court, several sources said.
