Casino may soon go Hollywood

Cincinnati Enquirer,  Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 6:02:23 PM

Lawrenceburg--Amid a massive $300 million expansion, Argosy officials are contemplating a name change for the region's dominant casino.

To reflect a new overall theme, the new moniker will include "Hollywood" and may not include "Argosy." General manager Tony Rodio said the "Hollywood" concept has been employed by parent company Penn National, but will be expanded here. "We're going to take it to a whole new level," he said.

Argosy's new gambling boat is still under construction next to its existing facility. When the new casino boat opens--tentatively the Fourth of July weekend, it will feature art deco columns and a miniature Hollywood Bowl intended to evoke the heyday of the entertainment icon in the 1930s and 1940s. With 40-foot ceilings and state-of-the-art ventilation systems designed to suck out cigarette smoke, the facility will have a more open look and even smell different.
