Claridge hotel to receive $20 million 'extreme' makeover

The venerable Claridge hotel, a throwback to Atlantic City's "Queen of Resorts" days, is getting a $20 million facelift as it continues its second life as a casino property.
All 500 rooms in the 24-story tower will be spruced up with new furniture, bedding, bathroom fixtures, carpeting and wall coverings in what is described as an "urban minimalist design."
Workers have also started refurbishing the building's aging, red-brick facade. The Claridge ranked among the Boardwalk's posh hotels when it made its debut in 1929 as the "skyscraper by the sea."
