Des Plaines wins big with casino license

The Illinois Gaming Board has awarded Des Plaines the state's 10th Casino license. The vote was 3 for Des Plaines and 1 for Waukegan.
The license has been dormant, and not generating revenue for the state since July 1997 when the Silver Eagle Casino in JoDavies County closed.
The license has been mired in controversy for years as some regulators and the Illinois Attorney General expressed concerns about alleged connections to organized crime by some people involved in Rosemont's bid. This time around Rosemont claims to have addressed those concerns. In addition the village has offered nearly $200 million more in upfront payments to the state than the next closest bidder.
