Governor meets with House Democrats about casino plan

Gov. Steve Beshear and House Democrats met behind closed doors Wednesday to discuss casino gambling legislation expected to be introduced this week.
Following the private meeting in the Kentucky Supreme Court chambers, Beshear said a proposed constitutional amendment and coinciding legislation to set up casinos would be filed in the General Assembly on Thursday. Beshear and other lawmakers who attended the meeting offered little detail on the plan that the governor has said could generate up to $500 million in new revenue for the state.
"There isn't any secrecy about it," Beshear told reporters. "It's just that we're just now putting the finishing touches on it, and we'll be announcing it publicly tomorrow -- all of the specific details."
