Group wants to build four casinos in Ohio

Dayton Business Journal,  Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:41:22 PM

A Pennsylvania gaming company and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert want to build four casinos in Ohio, including one at Broadway Commons in downtown Cincinnati.

The Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee, a political action committee, submitted paperwork to the Ohio Attorney General's Office Wednesday seeking to place a constitutional amendment on the Nov. 3 ballot. It would ask voters to approve a plan to build casinos in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo in which Penn National Gaming Inc. and Gilbert would be the investors. The petition names Broadway Commons as a Cincinnati site by describing it as a 20-acre parcel, and listing parcel numbers that would be a casino location. Broadway Commons is now a parking lot on the northeastern edge of downtown. It had discussed in the late 1990s as a possible site for a Reds' stadium before the riverfront was chosen. If petition language is approved by the attorney general, the committee would begin collecting signatures to place the issue on the statewide ballot. the source
