Kansas lays off casino regulators

Facing a shortage of work to do, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission said Tuesday it will lay off 11 staff members and reduce hours for an additional 10 workers effective Feb. 7.
"With only the Dodge City casino projected to open this year, there is not enough on-going work to justify our current staffing levels," said director Stephen Martino.
The proposed Boot Hill Casino & Resort in Dodge City is the only one of six anticipated state-owned casinos or racetrack gaming facility projects that is under construction.
