Long Beach passes condo, casino rules

Aldermen on Tuesday approved a city ordinance that creates guidelines for casinos and condos.
The new rules require developers to acquire at least five acres of land before they can build a casino and they would also have to present their master plan and a formal application before the city will consider rezoning for gambling.
The city is not considering any rezoning of property for a casino, but in a nonbinding referendum last summer, voters said they would like to see one across from the Long Beach Harbor on U.S. 90.
