M Resort opens south of Vegas resort corridor

Mercury News,  Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 9:42:00 PM

The M Resort, Spa and Casino was opening Sunday night during what has been a tough stretch for casinos in Las Vegas, but chief executive Anthony Marnell III said it is timeless tenets--service and value--that will push his company forward.

Meanwhile, Marnell said he expects filling the 390 rooms at the $1 billion resort after its first month to be tougher than he originally planned.

"I do feel good that I don't have to fill 3,000 of them every night, because that would be a daunting challenge that the Strip is facing right now," Marnell told The Associated Press on Sunday. "I think that we can carve out our little tiny niche down here with this product." the source

Gambling Factoid #22:
the word 'casino' comes directly from Italian, where it originally meant 'little house' or 'cottage.' It was first used in English to describe a gambling establishment in the 1800s.
