Mount Airy resort eyes Oct. opening

Just as Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs was the first track-based slots parlor to open in the state, the Mount Airy Resort and Casino aims to be the first of the state’s five standalone slots venues, with a tentative opening date of October 2007.
The aggressive timetable could be part of the reason the state’s Gaming Control Board opted to give a license to Mount Airy owner Louis DeNaples over the competing Pocono Manor slots parlor proposed by New Jersey developer Greg Matzel. The faster slots revenue comes in, the quicker state officials can dole out the property tax relief they promised through gambling expansion.
