Order allows bingo halls to stay open

Daily Mountain Eagle,  Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 9:43:33 AM

Six bingo halls in Walker County that were scheduled to be shut down at 5 p.m. Friday received news Friday afternoon they would be allowed to continue operations.

Court orders filed by Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Robert Vance will allow Carbon Hill Bingo, Walker County Bingo, Dreams Come True Charity Bingo, Blackwater Bingo and Ba Da Bingo to remain open. Vance also called Jasper attorney Bill Adair to verbally inform him that It's Your Lucky Day Bingo would also be allowed to remain open, but that order may not be officially filed until Monday.

The bingo halls had been the subject of a court order earlier this week which informed each they would be forced to close by 5 p.m. Friday because their business models were not in compliance with state and local gaming laws. The charities of each bingo hall did not own or lease the property and machines where bingo games were being played. the source
