Rivers Casino on hook for $5.9 million a year in taxes

Allegheny County set the assessed value of Rivers Casino at $199.5 million, an amount that would generate nearly $5.9 million a year in property taxes for the county, city and Pittsburgh Public Schools, officials announced Tuesday.
The amount "surprised" officials at the North Shore slots parlor.
The 12.6 acres upon which the casino sits was assessed at $4.1 million throughout the casino's construction and first five months of operation. Surrounding parcels in the casino complex were valued at a combined $3.6 million.
