Seniors remain loyal to casinos despite economy

Daily News-Sun,  Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:03:59 AM

Revenue for Arizona casinos may be down, but loyalty from senior gamblers is not the reason.

According to figures released this week from the Arizona Department of Gaming, revenue sharing numbers have dropped more than 9 percent in the last year for the 22 casinos in Arizona. But judging from steady attendance on bus tours from Sun City and Sun City West, seniors are still spending their discretionary dollars on gambling.

"We have very loyal customer base that likes to spend their entertainment dollars on casino gaming, and we've maintained a lot of those customers," said Mike Kintner, director of marketing at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino. "Our demographic is 55-plus (and) we're primarily slots oriented, slots player dominant. Slots are the bulk of our business, and that seems to cater to seniors." the source

Gambling Factoid #30:
Poker may take its name from a similar German game called 'pochen.' In German, pochen means 'to bluff.'
