Statewide smoking ban set to take effect in May

Lighting up in a restaurant or bar will be a thing of the past in Michigan in May.

And, state Sen. Raymond Basham (D-Taylor) has seen a dream of his become a reality.

A longtime proponent of a statewide workplace smoking ban, the former Taylor councilman and state representative is elated that the state Legislature approved the ban Thursday.

"What better way to spread health and good cheer this time of year than passing this legislation to make Michigan workplaces smoke-free," Basham said.
