Triana bingo ruled illegal

A federal judge ruled Monday that electronic bingo machines operating in Triana are actually illegal slot machines, and that the operators of the machines violated several provisions of Alabama's gambling laws.

The ruling went in favor of Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning, who in 2007 ordered the seizure of hundreds of machines and millions of dollars in cash from the operators. That group identified itself in court filings as the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.

The operators claimed that the seizure was illegal.
