Tribe getting KCK site ready for casino

Work crews are busy this week at a former Masonic temple in downtown Kansas City, Kan., that an Oklahoma-based tribe for years has sought to turn into a casino.
“We are taking up where we left off some time ago, getting ready to put a casino in there,” Leaford Bearskin, chief of the Oklahoma-based Wyandotte Nation, said Wednesday.
Bearskin acknowledged the tribe still must win a favorable ruling from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court has set a May hearing date on an appeal by Kansas authorities, who have battled the tribe in court for a decade.
