Wayland casino opponents say they plan appeal

A notice of appeal was filed Thursday in what might be the last hope for a group trying to stop a Wayland Township casino.
The appeal by Michigan Gambling Opposition is expected to ask the appellate court in Washington, D.C., to set aside a lower court's decision in February in favor of the U.S. Department of Interior and the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi Indians.
"The tribe welcomes MichGO's filing and would rather have them file the appeal and get the process under way than use delay mechanisms to delay resolution of the case," said James Nye, a spokesman for the tribe, also known as the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish.
