Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem applies for table games

Express-Times,  Friday, February 19, 2010 at 12:57:24 PM

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem submitted an application today to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board which, if approved, would allow the property to add approximately 80 table games to its existing casino floor.

In its application, the casino said it plans to offer a variety of table games, including blackjack, craps, roulette, poker and baccarat. On Thursday, Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Chairman Gregory C. Fajt said the games could be up and running in the state as early as the Fourth of July.

"When the first card is dealt, Sands Bethlehem instantly becomes the most convenient gaming location for millions of New York City and northern New Jersey residents," says Robert DeSalvio, president of Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. "The excitement of table games and slot machines, combined with great live entertainment and a wide range of dining options, including two Emeril Lagasse restaurants, will further Sands Bethlehem's reputation as one of the region's premier entertainment destinations." the source

Sands Casino Bethlehem opens new slot machines, restaurants, bar today

Express-Times,  Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 9:53:43 AM

It's almost opening day all over again at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

Preparing for today's debut of two new restaurants, a new lounge and 250 new slot machines, Sands again had to get all the machines inspected by the state and train new staff. The casino even had to print new interior directional signs to point visitors to all the new offerings.

And casino officials hope today, like its May 22 opening, will be a major attraction for customers. To increase crowds, the casino is giving away a limited edition 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby at 7 p.m.

"Hopefully (it will) turn out to be one of our bigger days," President Robert DeSalvio said. the source

Table games at Bethlehem casino would bring hundreds of new jobs

Express-Times,  Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at 10:32:46 AM

The legalization of table games would create hundreds of new jobs at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem and more than 1,500 if the games reignite construction on the adjacent hotel, mall and conference center, officials said Monday.

The state's $28 billion budget compromise that uses table games such as poker, craps and roulette as a revenue source would be a boon for local job creation, Mayor John Callahan said.

Sands is considering adding 70 to 80 tables to its South Side casino, which at 10 employees per table would be 700 to 800 new jobs, Callahan said. the source

Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem announced this morning that it has nearly doubled the amount of space designated for smoking gamblers from 25% of the gaming floor to nearly 50%. Sands says the increase is in response to demand from its guests.

The casino says it has a state-of-the-art air filtration system that's designed to handle smoking on the entire floor, but 50% of the floor will remain off limits to smokers. Sands' restaurants will also remain smoke-free. the source

Bethlehem approves liquor license for casino eatery Cobalt Cafe

Morning Call,  Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 11:00:59 AM

Bethlehem City Council on Tuesday approved a liquor license transfer for Cobalt Cafe, a 24-hour restaurant that is to open in the Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem.

In approving the resolution 7-0, council determined that Cobalt's proposal was consistent with the zoning regulations, was not in a residential zoning district and would not hurt the "welfare, health, peace and morals" of its residents, according to the resolution.

The resolution is required before the state decides on granting the liquor license.

The restaurant is to be run by a group of investors that includes local hotelier and philanthropist Kostas Kalogeropoulos, who helped bring Shula's Steak House to the Lehigh Valley, the source
