State accuses shuttered Tigua casino of illegal gambling

El Paso, Texas -- Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has accused the Tigua Indian tribe of illegal gambling with slot machines in a casino his predecessor shut down six years ago.
In a contempt-of-court motion filed Friday, Abbott alleges that the tribe is violating a federal court order by offering to "pay real cash" with "eight-liner" gaming machines.
The Speaking Rock Entertainment Center was shuttered in 2002 after a federal court backed then-state Attorney General John Cornyn's claims in a lawsuit that the tribe was not legally allowed to have casino gaming on its reservation.
