Sussex racino bill clears hurdle

Backers of a proposed Sussex County racino project won a victory in the state House, keeping alive the chance the casino could get its license before year's end.
A bill to grant the project its casino license had stalled in the House Revenue and Finance Committee, but House Majority Leader Peter Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth Beach and a proponent of the $550 million, 377-acre Del Pointe project near Millsboro, rounded up enough votes to force it out.
He then tabled the bill, telling the House that he had no intention of working it before the adjournment deadline.
