Two local lawmakers want Pittsburgh casino license revoked

Two Pittsburgh-area lawmakers have asked the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to revoke a license given to Detroit businessman Don Barden to operate what would be--upon completion--the city's lone slot-machine casino.

In a letter to Gaming Control Board Chairwoman Mary DiGiacomo Colins, State Sen. Jane Orie, a McCandless Republican, and Sen. Jim Ferlo, a Highland Park Democrat, say the license granted in December 2006 to Barden's PITG Gaming LLC "is no longer financially viable."

The letter comes just days after Barden gave up a majority stake in the casino to Chicago billionaire Neil Bluhm after Barden defaulted on a $200 million bridge loan. The entire casino is now estimated to cost about $780 million.
